Welcome Back! September 16, 2008

Welcome back for the 2008-2009 school year! I am the 7th grade Math teacher for the Starfish team. I hope you share my excitement for increasing your current skills and learning new material that will help you succeed in future classes and life.
Please feel free to visit this website for class information and to communicate with me at anytime.
I am looking forward to having you contribute as an active participant.
We will not be using calculators until the third 12 weeks of school. My goal is to make you faster at solving problems than it would to get your calculator out. However, the calculator is a good tool on some types of problems to help you solve them more efficiently.
Below is rough outline of how class was run during the 2007-2008 school year. The curriculum is the same but we are rearranging some of the objectives around to make the class flow better.
Also, this year we are fully implementing Accelerated Math (AM) in class. Part of my full implementation is to have weekly tests, typically on Fridays, on about 3-6 objectives at a time as opposed to 1 to 3 weeks of material at a time. This allows your student to test on the objectives while they are still fresh in their mind. Homework will generally be in the form of AM practice sheets (possibly AM exercise sheets) and notecards. Some time is generally provided at the end of class for your student to start their homework and ask questions while I am available.
Mr. Green

hey Mr.Green what ru doing i hope ur going to have a good day tomorrow are we going to use the index cards tomprrow (Thursday)
Mileena – glad to see you made it to my page! Everyday should be a good day. You will not need your index cards in class – however, you will need them at home for when we do vocabulary homework. We won’t actually use them until next week. If you don’t have them by then, I have some extras in class until you receive them.
Mr. Green
Hi Mr.Green what r we goeing to do tomorrow and tell me it isnt what I think it is. I mean please tell me we r not goeing to do alot of work cause my hand is killing me from writing i think im goeing to get carpet tunnel. HaHaHa JUST KIDDING Mr.Green
hey mr. green i know someone that their last name is green and they go to this school too but did you know that the test that we took today in class was extra long…….
Brianna – We will finish the second half of the diagnostic test : ) : ( It’s a neccesary evil for me to be able to make sure you do well in the class.
Mr. Green
Miya – Is this other person with the same last name as me also a 7th grader and a girl? Unfortunately, yes, it was long…. I think Friday’s is 2 minutes shorter though : )
Hey Mr. Green! I’m so glad to be back at school and to be on your team. Hope your having as much fun as I am. : )
so no homework today were u made at me today
Hannah – Hopefully things will get even more fun as we are now actually going to be getting into the MATH curriculum. Of course, that means home work is coming too!
Mileena – Now that the beginning of the school year paper work and tests are done, the home work will be picking up rather quickly. 4th core is always the hardest for everyone to stay focused and on task. We will have a lot to do this year so I need everyone to be FOCUSED on what we should be doing in the class.
Hey Mr.Green that test was long and I know the person Miya is talking about that his last name is green his name is ****** ***** in 6th grade i see u later at school on Monday
Hey Mr. Green!!
Well I just wanted to say “Hi” and that I will see you tomorrow!!
Bye!!
Rachel H.
I would think alot of other people would have commented on your blog for some reason.
I am a little bummed out that not more people have posted comments. I must not be liked by my students! : (

Gobble, gobble, gobble!!!
Hay Mr. Green I just wanted to say I am enjoying your class you make it so easy to understand.
Zack – I’m glad you are enjoying the class! Just make sure you take everything in stride and don’t let any one thing get to you. Keep up the good work!
Dear Mr. Green although I don’t have the top grade in your class I look forward to go to math every day even if there is a test because you help me get ready and you teach me the things I need to know. Thanks for everything! ,manda L. =]
AWESOME! Even about the tests. Sometimes Math is easy and sometimes it is hard. Just don’t get overwhelmed by it. Thanks for the post!
Mr.Green,
I would like to stay and get extra help in math.
The main reason why is because I get it but when I go home I get confused. So I would like to get help for math.
Before school is always good for me! I’m usually there by 7:20AM. If you can’t make it before school let’s try during Academic Coaching.
HEYYYYYY Mr. Green
I need help in math really bad can you help me tomorrow are you going to be there after school because I am staying after school in Mrs. Johnson’s class tomorrow which is Thursday. And Boots is me Mileena if you do not know that already PLEASE HELP ME I NEED HELP BAD IN MATH I at least need a C or HIGH D.
Mileena,
I’ll be at school until 3:30 PM on Thursday. I’m not sure what we can do with just 1 day left in the marking period and after already taking your quarterly assessment. You really need to be taking notes and doing homework and notecards for class everday. I noticed you have not returned the 3 progress reports I sent home to be signed. That would have greatly helped your situation.
Math is not something you can all of a sudden decide to learn/do in 30 minutes at the end of the nine weeks.
ok i am doing my homework and stuff right now
hopefully i am going to give you my progess reports tomorrow
Mr Green,
I cant come in tomorrow morning because my mom has school in the morning also and my friend is coming to pick me up. So i dont know what to do to get help. Please give me an idea.
Thanks,
Ashley
